Power in an economic system
ABSTRACT ▼
The article analyses the problems of power in an economic system. The author emphasizes the poor level of research on the problem of power in the modern economic theory. He proposes an economic concept of power. Economy is considered as a system of power relations. The author justifies a concept of efficient economic power or socially necessary power order. He advocates the need of social control on the distribution of economic power.

Structure of economic power and behavior of the enterprise’s owner
ABSTRACT ▼
The article analyzes the factors conditioning the level of motivation of the enterprises’ owners to socially efficient use of the enterprises’ assets; the influence of the institutional environment of the post-Soviet transition economy of the behavior of the enterprises’ owners; and the guidelines of transformation of the institute of property in Ukraine’s economy aiming at the increase in its social efficiency.

What do we investigate, when we investigate institutions?
ABSTRACT ▼
The author investigates fundamental issues of the development of the methodology of modern institutional economic theory. Institutions are considered as a form of social interaction whose aim is the structuring of relations between the participants of the economic process. He analyzes the main signs of institution. Social interactions are considered as the main source of the formation and change of instituions.

The state and the regions: why no consent? (the institutional aspect)
ABSTRACT ▼
The author considers institutional restrictions to optimal distribution of authorities between central and regional governments and shows theoretical possibility to reach Pareto-optimal distribution of authorities. He analyzes the reasons hindering the incentives to efficient distribution of authorities and investigates the formal and spontaneous patterns of the distribution of authorities between center and regions. The article defines institutional limits to efficient regional policy

Why Ukraine is not an Innovation State: an Institutional Analysis
ABSTRACT ▼
Institutional impediments to the innovation activities in Ukraine are studied. It is demonstrated that the main source of income in this country is artificial diminishing of the costs of doing business performed through the execution of the economic power. As a result thereof transaction costs for innovations become high, the innovations are confronted bureaucratically and education and science infrastructure falls apart.

The modern theory of institutions: identification of subject field
ABSTRACT ▼
The article analyzes the condition of modern institutional theory, within which there is no unanimity on the nature of its main object - institution. The author justifies the possibility of two approaches to identify the subject field of modern institutional theory - from the standpoint of economics and political economy of institutions, each with its own characteristics within the subject area of study.
