The author investigates the methodological approaches to define the notion of “market” within neoclassical and neo-institutional theories and reveals its economic essence through systemic institutions regulating the change of property rights (in the process of decentralized commodity exchange) and distribution of productive resources. The article proposes certain principles of the systematization of market structures.
